5 Day Blue Mountains Camino-style Walk
Venue: Blue Mountains National Park
5 DAY WALK, Camino-style from Penrith to Blackheath
It's on again this year: 22-26 October 2019
JOIN our 5-day (or part thereof) walking adventure! Members of the Blue Mountains Supporters of the Camino group (BMSotC) will again be walking from Penrith, at the base of the Blue Mountains, all the way to Blackheath, near the top, finishing with a social event at Glenella Guesthouse in Blackheath. This year the walk has been moved from September to October to co-inside with John Brierley's visit to the Blue Mountains, 25-27 October, where John will be special guest and presenting his Path of Self Discovery and Q&A on 26 October (for details go to the separate Event post).
This is a great opportunity to experience the Camino spirit right here in Australia. If you’re thinking of walking a Camino in Spain or Portugal, or other pilgrimages elsewhere, this is a great opportunity to try out your gear and see if you like long distance walking! And if 5 days is too long you can join the group for fewer days or just one day along the route if you wish.
Please be aware this is not a ‘guided’ walk but rather a walk with a group of Camino friends travelling up the Blue Mountains. Each person joining will be provided a PDF walking guide showing possible walking routes and you can decide whether to walk alone or in groups on the day. It is up to each person, and their abilities, as to which route they would like to take.
This is not a bush walk (although there are bushy sections possible as part of the route) but more a walk reminiscent of travelling a Camino in Spain including staying in albergue-style (communal) accommodation if preferred. Walking a Camino means you might walk on dirt tracks, concrete footpaths and roads as well as through paddocks and rural scenery. You will encounter hills and steps as Penrith, our starting point, is 25m above sea level, and Blackheath is 1,065m.
Remember: all walkers are responsible for their own personal safety and well being.
Saturday 26 October This year we are finishing at Blackheath in time for the Camino Meetup 2.00-5.00pm. This is a special extended Camino Meetup and we are thrilled to have special guest, John Brierley, renown UK author of A Pilgrim Guide to the Camino de Santiago guide books.
The venue for the Camino Meetup will be the RSL Hall, 2 Bundarra St, Blackheath (just over the Railway line). Seating is limited and RSVPs are essential, BOOK HERE Cost for the Camino Meetup is $5.00 for afternoon tea including Santiago tart.
